How do you Define a Technological System?

A system is an abstract term used to describe a set of interacting components that work together to form an integrated whole. A technological system could be described as a subset that uses aspects of technology for the mechanisms, control, and automation of system processes. Technological systems are used in practically every aspect of the 21st century world, from the micro systems used by individuals through to the macro systems used by huge corporations and governments around the world. While the term technological system could be used to describe a set of related mechanical processes, it is increasingly more likely to apply to systems of information technology and digital control.

Within the fields of information technology and computer science, organised systems are absolutely integral. In this context, as system is a set of software and hardware components that are designed to provide a set of organised and structured behaviours and communications. Systems are generally used to describe a framework of operations that allow specific computer programs to run and solve particular problems. A technological system can be distinguished from a natural system in a number of ways, as any man made system has specific purposes that are achieved through the delivery of the outputs of the system. In many cases, a technological system can be viewed as a transformational process that has specific boundaries, where a set of inputs are transformed into a series of outputs in relation to a specified type and number of operations.

Systems that use technology are integral to the world in the 21st century, and come in a huge range of different forms and configurations. From the simple mechanical systems used in automobiles and factories through to the complex interactive software systems used to operate the Internet, technology and systems often go hand in hand. While a number of non-technological systems are more abstract in nature and refer to specific principles and concepts, technological systems are physical in nature and developed to solve particular problems in the world.
